6 More Concessions Packages Approved For SAN

Last month, the San Diego County Regional Airport Authority board awarded 10 food and beverage and retail concessions packages for San Diego International (SAN). Last week, it approved six more, with concepts including a spa, wine bar, frozen yogurt and hamburgers.

“The additional packages approved today will add even more variety, quality and iconic local flavor to the future concessions at San Diego International Airport,” says Robert H. Gleason, chairman of the board. “We are pleased to have approved these additional packages while upholding the board’s commitment to worker retention and opportunities for local, small and disadvantaged businesses.”

“These six packages round out the new concession program at San Diego International Airport, and we are very pleased with the results,” says Nyle Marmion, manager of concession development for the airport authority. “Passengers will soon be able to enjoy a variety of the best local, regional, national and international concepts when traveling through SDIA.”

The board says one of its goals was inclusion of local, small and disadvantaged business in the new concessions program. It also says it recognizes the value that current workers bring to the airport’s concessions program; in December, it approved worker retention language that was included as a requirement in the request for proposals. All of the approved concessions packages meet or exceed those requirements.

The new concessions are slated to begin opening in December 2012 and will be located throughout all terminals.
