Murphy made permanent Aviation Director at PHX

Danny Murphy, acting aviation director at Phoenix Sky Harbor International (PHX) since June 2006, was awarded the position permanently June 21.

Murphy began his work with the city of Phoenix in 1983 and had been head of the city’s Information Technology Department and Acting Water Services Director before being named to the aviation post last June.

He oversees a department with a $197 million budget and a $3 billion airport development program that includes an automated train that will connect with a regional light rail system and transport passengers between terminals, parking facilities and a rental car center.

In addition to PHX, Murphy’s post at the city oversees Phoenix Deer Valley (DVT) and Phoenix Goodyear (GYR). PHX has 31,000 employees and more than 41 million passengers annually with plans in place to improve roadways and airfields and, as demand warrants, a new, 33-gate terminal on the west side of PHX.

“We want to move forward with the airport development program,” Murphy told the Arizona Republic. “And with this program we can ensure the safety and security of passengers.”
