The Wayne County Airport Board voted last week to award 50,000-square-feet of concessions space in its new North Terminal to Areas MCE Detroit Joint Venture, Delaware North Companies Travel Hospitality Services, National Airport Concessions LLC, McDonalds USA LLC, Borders Inc., Duty Free Americas, Brookstone, XpresSpa, and HDS & Partners at Detroit Metropolitan International (DTW).
The terminal is on course to open in the fall of 2008, says spokesman Scott Wintner.
Among the stores and restaurants opening at DTW will be five airport firsts: Ruby Tuesday, the Hockeytown Café©, Corona Bar & Grill, Cheeburger Cheeburger, and Paul Maison De Qualite, a European-style deli.
Other stores already known to the airport community will include Brookstone, Borders, Champps Restaurant and Bar, Villa Pizza, Quiznos, National Coney Island and Sora Sushi Bar.
DTW had received proposals from nearly 40 companies that partnered to offer 19 Food and beverage proposals and 18 retail proposals. The airport anticipates $259.6M in gross food and beverage sales and net revenue of $46.5M over the seven-year deal. The five-year retail contract is expected to gross $99.2M in sales with net revenue of $16.7M.
When completed the program will be about 50,000 square feet, including 14 news, gift, and specialty retail outlets and 15 food and beverage facilities. Disadvantaged business participation will be 42.7%. Six new concepts will premiere in the terminal and $24M will be added to southeast Michigan economy, according to the airport.
