The Federal Aviation Administration has awarded Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University a $2M grant for help with the “Airport of the Future” project at Daytona Beach International (DAB).
The project involves creating a national testing site for air transport system technologies that will improve airport safety, security and efficiency. The Daytona Beach-based university, FAA and DAB are working together to establish the “Airport of the Future.”
That project involves NextGen, which will overhaul the country’s air-traffic control system.
“What we are going to do is become a test site for NextGen technologies,” says Christina Recascino, vice president of research at Embry-Riddle. “We want to take a lead in testing some of these new technologies that make public transportation easier and better.”
The grant plus private investments from the industry brings the total invested in the project to $4M.
