The newest concession in Terminal B at Dallas/Fort Worth International (DFW) combines convenience store, deli and newsstand.
Z Market, a joint venture between HMSHost Corp. and Howell-Mickens LLC, opened Monday, offering health and beauty items, cell phone accessories, film, batteries and memory cards.
“DFW sets high standards for our terminals and our passengers have high expectations for their airport experience,” said Jeff Fegan, chief executive officer of DFW. “We also know the No. 1 goal of each passenger is to transition to somewhere else as quickly as possible. So we think Z Market and ‘Gourmet to Go’ will be well-received by our hectic and hungry travelers.”
The market offers Chef Love’s Gourmet to Go selections, which include pre-packaged sandwiches and salads, boxed meal combinations, heat-and-eat one-dish meals and sushi. Chef Love, known for his Fort Worth restaurant Lonesome Dove, has won several awards.
“Z Market is the ‘convenient convenience store’ with a difference,” said Joan Ryzner, senior vice president of retail for HMSHost. “Partnering with a local celebrity chef for upscale gourmet to go selections adds enormous appeal. We are pleased to introduce Z Market to U.S. airports, starting with DFW. This evolutionary retail experience is a new vision for travel shopping and is sure to exceed our guests expectations for quality, variety and service.”
The store has wider aisles to accommodate travelers with luggage, as well as self-service stations for customers to help themselves to coffee, pastries and other goods.

As part of British Airways’ and the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey’s $250M terminal redevelopment program, BA and HMSHost Corp. have opened new food and beverage concessions at John F. Kennedy International’s (JFK) Terminal 7.
“Terminal amenities and services are increasingly influencing passengers’ airport and airline preferences,” said Robin Hayes, BA’s executive vice president Americas. “Providing our customers with more unique dining options at JFK complements the experience of traveling with British Airways and reinforces our commitment to the Port Authority and to New York.”
The concessions, part of HMSHost’s contract extension through 2015, include Balducci’s Food Lover’s Market, Sapphire Lounge, Todd English’s Bonfire, Starbucks Coffee and Wolfgang Puck Gourmet Express.
“With two world-class celebrity chefs, New York’s quintessential gourmet market and the very cool Sapphire Lounge, Terminal 7 is a great place for good food and a relaxing drink,” said Joe Waller, vice president of business development for HMSHost. “Quality destinations like these, which until recently people would never expect to find in an airport, definitely make the traveler’s day better.”
