Randall Cleaver’s “Something Old/Something New” art exhibit is showing travelers passing through Philadelphia International (PHL) that discarded items can be turned into art.
With a certificate in horology, the science of timekeeping, Cleaver studied and made gears, and then used them to make and repair clocks. That background is evident in his artwork, which is fully functional. Pieces include clocks and lamps made from waffle irons, toasters, woks, globes and appliances that actually keep time and produce light.
“When I was a kid, I was always making stuff, adapting my toys,” recalls Cleaver.
The exhibit, on display in the link between Terminals C and D, can be seen through April.
