Areas To Build, Operate Steakhouse At DCA

Areas USA has been chosen to design, build and operate a nearly 4,000 sq. ft., full-service restaurant at Ronald Reagan Washington National (DCA).

The 10-year contract will bring Sam & Harry’s steakhouse, a local Washington, D.C., landmark to the airport. The restaurant, which will replace Legal Sea Foods in the National Hall before security, is expected to generate accumulated sales of more than $5M.

“We are very excited about the opportunity,” says Eduardo Uribe, vice president of business development for Areas. “The fact that we managed to replace an icon such as Legal Sea Foods is a statement about uniqueness of brands that Areas can bring to the airports. We are quite confident that Sam & Harry’s will be extremely well received with the passengers of DCA.”

The restaurant features USDA prime steaks, seafood flown in daily from around the world and an award-winning wine program offering hand-selected bottles and highlighting 50 wines by the glass.

The company will operate 15 facilities in the new T-1 terminal at Barcelona (BCN), which opened this week.

It was awarded contracts for five restaurants and 17 shops, as well as management of 145 vending machines and two employee canteens. The first phase of the opening will include 15 shops, and three restaurants and two more shops will open in the skywalk after the summer.

“We are truly pleased and excited with the opening of this new terminal, as well as the launch of our new establishments,” says CEO José© Gabriel Martín. “For us, the Barcelona airport is very special because this is where we opened our first Divers shop in 1992, the cornerstone on which we have built a network of 185 shops in airports around the world.”
