HMSHost, Bradford School Team Up For Internship Program

HMSHost Corp. has established an internship program for students in the culinary arts program at Bradford School in Columbus, Ohio, who are looking for careers in the airport concessions industry.

As part of the program, students will be exposed to all facets of restaurant operations during the 12-week program; they will be given training and skill-building in everything involved in managing an airport concession, from casual dining and quick-service restaurant operations to food distribution, financial controls, human resources and airport security.

“The Columbus Culinary Institute at Bradford School, providing an accredited, comprehensive culinary degree in a hands-on environment, is collaborating with Kirk Christian, general manager of HMSHost, to create a customized 12-week Culinary Externship Program for our minority students,” said Michelle Hathaway, director of culinary career services/community relations at Bradford School.  “We are excited to be a part of this project and look forward to building a long-lasting relationship with HMSHost.”

The first two students selected for the program are April Wills and Roneka Prince, who will be trained and supervised by managers of HMSHost’s concessions at Port Columbus International (CMH), working in restaurants such as Starbucks, Chili’s Too and Wolfgang Puck Express.

“We are very proud to partner with Bradford School on this internship program,” says Joseph Waller, vice president of business development for HMSHost.  “Our goal is to give these students hands-on experience that will help make them the next generation of business leaders in Columbus.”

Throughout the year, approximately eight students from Bradford will have the opportunity to participate in this internship with HMSHost.
