Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall (BWI) and Orlando International are set for new airline service.
At BWI, jetBlue Airways has launched four non-stop flights between the airport and Boston Logan International (BOS).
“The new air service from jetBlue highlights the strength of this market and this region,” says Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley. “BWI Marshall Airport is an important economic engine for the state of Maryland and the entire national capital region. The addition of jetBlue Airways will strengthen that impact.”
JetBlue Airways is the second new airline to begin service at BWI this year. In March, Cape Air began service to two regional destinations: Hagerstown and Lancaster, Pa.
“We are pleased to welcome jetBlue Airways to BWI Marshall Airport,” says Timothy L. Campbell, executive director of the Maryland Aviation Administration. “This new service to Boston will provide both business and leisure travelers with more travel options, competitive fares, and excellent customer service.”
In Orlando, TACA Airlines will become the newest international carrier when it begins scheduled non-stop service to Central America on Nov. 1.
The Embraer E190 aircraft will fly three times a week to San Salvador, with continuing connections throughout the region.
“Increased service to Latin America has been a goal by the aviation authority and the community to meet increased travel demand,” said Steve Gardner, executive director of the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority at the August board meeting. “This new service is welcomed for the opportunities and benefits that it brings both leisure and business travelers for travel between our two regions.”
