Orlando International (MCO) and Melbourne International (MLB) have become destinations for three airlines in the past two months.
At MCO, Martinair returned to the airport in mid-October with non-stop service to Amsterdam and connections to 98 other worldwide destinations. The airline had left the airport about 18 months ago.
“Martinair’s return to Orlando is good news for Orlando International Airport and all of Central Florida,” says Jeff Fuqua, chairman of the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority. “We are pleased that in light of the current economic climate that Martinair has decided it is a sound business decision to launch its service from our area which will benefit both the Netherlands and Central Florida.”
Also at MCO, TACA began service earlier this month, with connections to Latin America. It begins with three flights each week to San Salvador with 41 connections throughout Central and South America.
And after 12 years, US Airways will be coming back to MLB, with three flights daily to Charlotte, N.C. Tickets went on sale Nov. 11 for service that will begin Feb. 11.
“US Airways was a very good partner, and we’re certainly happy to have them back,” says Richard Ennis, the airport’s executive director. “We’re adding significant service not just to Charlotte but access to 550 locations worldwide.”
