HMSHost Corp. has been awarded a new eight-year food and beverage concessions contract at Miami International (MIA). It will work with local Miami ACDBE partners Tinsley Family Concessions and Master ConcessionAir to offer new dining options in the airport’s North Terminal.
“As Miami International Airport’s North Terminal moves closer to completion, we look forward to the unique kinds of locally inspired dining experiences HMSHost will offer our travelers,” says Jose Abreu, aviation director for the Miami-Dade Aviation Department.
The first concepts are slated to open late summer and will feature local and international brands reflecting the city’s culture.
Bacardi Mojito Bar will offer an authentic Mojito cocktail bar and contemporary Caribbean experience. Its menu will include premium signature rums served either straight up or for sipping, or mixed into a cocktail. For those who want to eat, the menu will offer elements from Caribbean and Latin American cuisine created by celebrity chef Lorena Garcia.
Making its American debut at MIA, Beaudevin will feature a wine-tasting area where travelers may try global brands and regional labels that will vary with the season. Gourmet food offerings will be on the menu, along with plated selections. Travelers can dine in the lounge or bring their food with them for their flight.
The Counter brings the classic burger joint to the 21st century. There are more than 312,000 possible combinations of burgers, and there are three sizes of sandwiches for the “Build Your Own Burger” menu; they can include Angus beef, grilled chicken, turkey or house-made veggie, and they can be topped by any of 12 cheeses, 30 toppings and 21 sauces, and be served on one of four types of buns. There are also traditional burgers, and side items include french fries, sweet potato fries, crispy fried onion strings, chili and fried pickles. For thirsty patrons, there are ice cream shakes, malts and floats, plus a full bar.
In 2011, Starbucks Coffee/Tropical News will arrive at the airport, combining the popular coffee concept with a newsstand designed especially for MIA travelers. Items for sale will include souvenir gifts and apparel, and local, regional, national and international newspapers and magazines.
“We are proud of our longstanding partnership with Miami International Airport and appreciate the opportunity to continue to serve MIA travelers,” says Stephen Douglas, vice president of business development for HMSHost. “These exciting new restaurants and shops bring the city of Miami’s style directly to the airport, letting visitors know they’ve arrived in the ‘Magic City.’ We know the breadth of the offerings here will surely make the traveler’s day better.”
