Rick Bayless Brings Mexican Cuisine To ORD

Tortas Frontera by Rick Bayless is bringing sizzling Mexican fare to those traveling through Chicago O’Hare International (ORD), and it celebrated its grand opening with a mariachi band to bring in even more of the culture.

“We’re particularly pleased to bring this iconic restaurant featuring fresh foods from local farmers and producers — all to make the travelers day better at O’Hare International Airport,” says Stephen Douglas, vice president of business development for HMSHost Corp. “We’re off to a great start with Tortas Frontera by Rick Bayless and look forward to opening more exciting dining options at O’Hare in the future.”

The restaurant, located post-security in Terminal 1 near Gate B-11, offers Mexican griddle-baked sandwiches and mollettes: warm, open-face sandwiches. Menu options include egg and chorizo tortas and queso and cajeta mollettes, and lunch and dinner tortas include the Cubana, Chipotle chicken and roasted garlic mushroom. Diners can also visit the Roasted Tomatillo Guacamole Bar and Kalona’s Organic Yogurt Bar, and snack on chips, salsa, soups, salads Aguas Frescas, margaritas and beer.

“We are thrilled to welcome Tortas Frontera by Rick Bayless to O’Hare International Airport,” says Chicago Department of Aviation Commissioner Rosemarie S. Andolino. “Rick’s passion and love for Mexico’s vivid, spirited culture and food caters to the palate of O’Hare’s multi-cultural, global traveler. With Tortas Frontera, we are fulfilling Mayor Richard M. Daley’s goal to showcase Chicago’s world-class cuisine to the millions of worldwide passengers who travel through Chicago’s airports.”

Bayless says he enjoyed working with HMSHost to open his first airport restaurant.

“Tortas Frontera is a chance to introduce throngs of new customers to the signature dishes we’ve been creating and people have been enjoying for so many years,” he says.
