SLC To Overhaul Concessions Program

Salt Lake City International (SLC) will be revitalizing its concessions program.

As part of the changes, SLC will be bringing in the airport version of local favorites such as Market Street Grill, Café© Rio, Greek Souvlaki, Salt Lake Pizza and Pasta, High West Distillery, Millcreek Coffee and Veloce Cucina Toscana.

In addition, Salt Lake Brewing Co., which is locally owned, will continue to operate Squatter’s Pub Brewery, as well as Krispy Kreme doughnuts; it will also add Vino Volo/Ale House and Jamba Juice, and a locally franchised McDonald’s will join the foodservice mix.

Another local company, Air Terminal Gifts, has partnered wit Hojeij Branded Foods to open 15 locations in the food and beverage program, including Wendy’s and Pei Wei.

On the retail side, consumers will be able to choose from The Deseret News, the KidZoo (featuring Hogle Zoo), KSL 5 News, The Red Onion TravelMart, EA Sports, Sam Weller’s Books, Sego Lily Spa and Simply Books (featuring the Children’s Hour).

For local and Utah-related products, there will be Utah! and Utah’s Own shops. The local convention and visitor’s bureau, Visit Salt Lake, will offer a selection of products featured in its Salt Palace gift shop, in addition to visitor information and local event promotion in its store of the same name, Visit Salt Lake.

No Boundaries will sell outdoor and adventure products in conjunction with Outdoor Retailers that holds two annual conventions in Salt Lake City. They will feature items from several locally based sports and outdoor-oriented product companies.

Shoppers wanting merchandise that isn’t available locally will find it at Cat Cora’s Lounge and Gourmet Market, the French Meadow Bakery & Café©, Pinkberry, Kiehl’s Cosmetics, Brighton Collectibles, Qdoba Mexican Grill and Smashburger. Techshowcase will use local programmers’ talents to display electronic trends and products.

“This initiative was a big undertaking and required very careful thought and planning,” says Maureen Riley, airport executive director. “It is essential that the airport be creative and use its limited space wisely. We are pleased to be able to offer our customers more choice, a blend of local flavor mixed with national brands they know and a more modern experience”.

Construction will be done in phases and begin in July; the project is expected to take about 18 months, and is the first major redesign of SLC’s concessions program since 1959.
