LGA Employees To Shave Heads To Raise Money For Childhood Cancer Research

Twenty LaGuardia (LGA) employees will shave their heads March 30 as part of a St. Baldrick’s Foundation’s fundraising event honoring 2-year-old Carsyn Volpe.

Carsyn, the son of an employee of the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey, is fighting neuroblastoma, a malignant abdominal tumor.

The LGA Cares event will be from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Food & Shops’ Center Food Court. Tom Bosco, LGA’s general manager, will emcee the event, during which travelers will be able to donate money in honor of Carsyn and all children battling cancer. OTG Management will provide iPads as a way for travelers to donate via credit card.

“We are honored to participate in the airport’s LGA Cares event and lend our support to Carsyn and amazing kids everywhere who are battling cancer,” says Lillian Tan, vice president and general manager of MarketPlace Development, the retail development company that manages the retail and food program in the terminal. “The St. Baldrick’s Foundation helps to fund cancer research for kids and we are delighted to be part of such an important cause. We thank our Food & Shops community for their generous participation and involvement.”

Two licensed barbers will shave the employees’ heads. Eateries including Angelina’s Metro Market, Asian Chao, Auntie Anne’s, Famous Famiglia, Five Guys Burgers and Fries, FIX Bakery & Café©, Figs and MexiJoe’s Grill will be donating food; those making a minimum $10 or $20 donation will receive a free snack or lunch card while supplies last. Hudson Group will be supplying goodie bags for “shavees.”

The Food & Shops have started a fundraising team, the Food & Shops Rock Stars, to help raise money for the St. Baldrick’s Foundation. To donate, visit www.stbaldricks.org/teams/foodandshopsrockstars and click on “Make a Donation.”
