BOS Terminal E Improvements Approved

The Massachusetts Port Authority has approved $30 million as a partial budget for creating or reconfiguring 130,000 square feet of Terminal E at Boston Logan International (BOS).

The goal of the program, approved late last week, is to provide the required services needed to accommodate the Airbus A380, the largest commercial airplane in service.

Terminal E improvements will reconfigure three existing gates’ space to add two new jet bridges at each gate, add departure level hold rooms and deplaning areas, and modify aircraft taxi lanes on existing apron to fit the A380.

The program, part of a $100 million program announced by Gov. Deval Patrick earlier this year, also will include renovations of Immigrations and Customs areas at the west end of the terminal, add concessions and support space, and add a third level for new airline cubs.

“International flights are the largest growing sector at Logan, with one in five passengers traveling abroad,” says Massport CEO Thomas Glynn. “We need to do our part to keep up with the industry and our carriers’ needs. This project reflects our continued effort to improve infrastructure that helps grow the region’s economy, improve our customers’ experience and be a good neighbor.”

In other news at BOS, Massport’s board added Liz Morningstar, the CEO of the Boston Public Market Association, as a new member. She replaces Kathy West, who is stepping down. Morningstar’s experience developing the Boston Public Market, a 28,000-square-foot retail location near Haymarket slated to open next year, is seen as essential as Massport looks to improve the retail experience for customers and carriers at Logan, according to a statement.
