Chattanooga Airport Gaining 300 Parking Spaces

Chattanooga Metropolitan (CHA) plans to add 300 parking spaces at its commercial terminal by demolishing an aging hangar.

The move will allow CHA to better meet demand while removing a 64-year-old hangar deemed too costly to repair to code standards.

“We have seen a steady increase in customers parking in our lots over the last few years and have reached the point where an expansion is critical,” says Terry Hart, airport president. “We have reviewed all options for parking expansion and removing Hangar 3 makes the most sense, as it is located adjacent to the existing intermediate parking lot and requires a tremendous amount of maintenance in its present condition.”

Hart adds that improvements to existing parking lots are the airport’s primary focus for 2015.

“In addition to the new parking lot, customers will see several changes to the existing parking lots, including covered walkways and more reliable payment equipment at the exit gates,” he says.

That will include a mobile payment option. Construction on the new lot will begin this spring, with the completion expected this fall.
