Nursing moms have two new spaces set aside at Minneapolis-St. Paul International (MSP) for expressing breast milk and soon will have more.
The two rooms currently available are both in Terminal 1: one on Concourse F near Gate F2, the other on Concourse C across from Gate C13. The secure, sanitary rooms offer deep sinks for cleaning equipment, soft lighting, easily accessible electrical outlets, artwork and comfortable seating.
Travelers who wish to use the rooms can gain access by visiting an information booth near the rooms. When they are being used, locking the door from the inside will cause an “occupied” message to appear outside.
“Airports can be hectic places under the best of circumstances. But for nursing mothers, travel poses an extra challenge: where to comfortably collect their milk,” says Jeff Hamiel, executive director and CEO of the Metropolitan Airports Commission, which owns and operates MSP. “MSP International Airport’s two new lactation centers provide well-equipped, comfortable spaces to express milk before boarding a flight.”
A third location will open in Terminal 1’s Concourse E later this year. A fourth will be added in Terminal 2 – Humphrey in 2016.
