The San Antonio City Council has approved funding for a video-based system that will measure the length of time it takes passengers to get through security in Terminal A.
The queue-management program is designed to save travelers time and enhance their experience by shortening the length of their stay in line.
The system will display the estimated wait time for the last person in line both at the Terminal A security checkpoint and on the mobile website for San Antonio International (SAT). It uses video analytics to monitor passenger numbers and processing times. Cameras will be installed at security entrance and exit points in order to calculate the estimated wait.
The program also will capture information over time, generating reports the airport and its partners can use to make staffing changes and anticipate crowds going forward.
