Travelers passing through U.S. Customs and Border Protection at San Francisco International (SFO) have an option for making the process easier.
The Mobile Passport Control application has been approved for use at SFO, meaning eligible passengers will be able to bypass lines by submitting passport information and Customs declaration forms through a smartphone or tablet prior to arrival.
“As international traffic grows at SFO, we continue to seek innovative ways to expedite the arrival process for our international travelers,” says Airport Director John L. Martin. “With the expansion of Mobile Passport Control to SFO, our customers now have an efficient new option that allows them to bypass a traditional queue.”
The app is available for U.S. citizens with a valid passport and Canadian citizens with both a Canadian passport and B1 or B2 visa status. The app doesn’t require pre-approval, is free for use and doesn’t collect any new information from travelers. The result is shorter wait times and faster processing through CBP.
“With the continued expansion of MPC, CBP is following through with our commitment to improving the international arrivals experience for travelers,” says Todd C. Owen, assistant commissioner for the Office of Field Operations. “CBP remains committed to making a traveler’s entry into the United States as secure, paperless and efficient as possible.”
The app can be downloaded free in the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store. Once downloaded, travelers can set up and manage their profiles.
