Film Classics Hitting Screens At MIA

Miami International (MIA) has a surprise for its passengers this summer.

Throughout the season, the airport will be playing silent comedy film classics with the help of Pop-Up Cinema, a series of screenings shown in the 16-mm film format.

“We’re introducing our passengers to silver screens and silent film stars that create unique and shared experiences through cinema and laughter,” says Yolanda Sanchez, fine arts and cultural affairs director at MIA. “Pop-Up Cinema strives to create a sense of community where movie fans can share in the joy of classic comedies with each other while they make their way to their travel destinations.”

The films, provided by Obsolete Media Miami, will be shown weekly in surprise locations around the airport. Last week’s film was Buster Keaton’s “One Week,” which was selected by Congress to be in the National Film Registry.

The movies will be shown through the end of the August.
