Latest Phase Of Terminal 3 Redesign Revealed At YYZ

Terminal 3 – Node C is the latest redesigned space to be unveiled at Toronto Pearson International (YYZ) as part of the ongoing Terminal 3 enhancement.

Designed by Stantec, the space has been changed into a passenger-focused space. It includes lots of natural light and various retail outlets.

“When we reimagined Node C, our focus was on creating the best possible passenger experience,” says Paul Gogan, Stantec’s commercial buildings principal. “Passengers will remember the original space as dark and uninviting. The retail shops were located before security, so passengers on the air side found themselves with few amenities.”

The design includes the Eye in the Sky, a skylight that extends from the departures floor up through arrivals. Plus, a chandelier is positioned above the central seating area, which is supposed to give the same effect of sun peeking through leaves. There are also “tree” lamps and park benches that are lit from within. The tree lamps also act as acoustic ceiling fixtures, diffusing noise throughout the space.

“When combined, these design features create a relaxed accompaniment to the vibrant retail neighborhood,” says Gogan. “This design doesn’t just bring Node C up to speed with contemporary airports; it will also accommodate growth for the next 30 years.”

YYZ’s Terminal Enhancement Project is expected to be complete in 2017.
