Arcadia Publishing Installs First Book Kiosk In PIT

Arcadia Publishing and the History Press, publishers of local and regional books in the United States, has installed its first book kiosk in Pittsburgh International (PIT).

Located in the Center Core, the kiosk has space for dozens of facings, while holding four copies of each book. The machine can hold 150-200 books when it is fully loaded. The PIT kiosk features a collection of Pittsburgh-area titles, such as “African Americans of Pittsburgh,” “Kaufmann’s: The Big Store in Pittsburgh,” “The Pittsburgh Pirates,” “Forgotten Tales of Pittsburgh” and “The Decade.”

Passengers use a touchscreen on the kiosk to browse through the book selection and complete a transaction. They can even use its preview function to get a sample of a book’s content before purchasing.

“We are excited to see the results of this new approach to direct-to-consumer bookselling, and if the project is successful, we will seek to roll it out to additional locations,” says Richard Joseph, owner and CEO of Arcadia Publishing.
