Vinci Airports Acquires Airports Worldwide, Entering U.S. Airports Market

Vinci Airports, a division of France’s Vinci Concessions, has agreed to acquire the portfolio of Airports Worldwide in a move that will expand its network of airports in United States, the United Kingdom, Costa Rica and Sweden. The company hailed it as a “strategic move into the USA” while also bolstering its presence in Europe and Central America.

The deal, if approved by regulators, will expand Vinci Airports’ footprint to 45 airports worldwide.

In the United States, Vinci Airports is acquiring a 100 percent stake in Orlando-Sanford International Airport (SFB) under a concession contract covering operation of the current terminal and car park with a residual term of 21 years.

The deal also involves four full management contracts in U.S. airports: at Hollywood Burbank Airport (BUR) and Ontario International Airport (ONT) in California, and Macon Downtown Airport (MAC) and Middle Georgia Regional Airport (MCN) in Georgia. In addition, Vinci will take over partial management contracts covering U.S. airports at Atlantic City International Airport (ACY), Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU) and part of the international terminal at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL).

Outside the United States, the deal for Airports Worldwide includes two freehold properties. Vinci Airports will acquire a 100 percent stake in Belfast International Airport (BFS) and a 90.1 percent stake in Skavsta Airport (NYO) near Stockholm. Vinci will also acquire co-control stakes in Costa Rica’s two major airports, involving a 48.75 percent stake in Juan Santamaria International Airport (SJO) in San José and a 45 percent stake in Daniel Oduber Quiros International Airport (LIR) in Liberia.
