JAX’s Grossman To Retire At Year End

Steve Grossman, CEO of the Jacksonville Aviation Authority, will retire at the end of 2018.

Grossman was appointed to the position in September 2009, and oversees the operation, maintenance, development and marketing of Jacksonville International Airport (JAX), Cecil Airport (VQQ), Jacksonville Executive at Craig Airport (CRG) and Herlong Recreational Airport (HEG).

“It’s been an honor to be a part of the team at JAA and see the establishment of a new positive and professional culture throughout the organization,” Grossman says. “As part of the consolidated government, we have built bridges to the city and other organizations that we work with and support.”

Grossman recently told AXN that JAX is thriving. “We are riding the crest of a good economy,” he says. “We have less than 1 percent connecting traffic so JAX is a true origin and destination airport. As population increases, more importantly as business increases, we’re going to grow and become even more attractive to the carriers.”

Grossman says seats are up 18 percent this year through a combination of more flights, including new service from Frontier Airlines and Allegiant Air, and larger planes. “All of that goes to a very robust passenger environment.,” he says. “Like most medium-hub airports, we’re still trying to recover service that we lost after the recession and the change in the airline business model.”

According to the Airport Authority, under Grossman’s leadership the group achieved operating profit margins of at least 30 percent each year.
