On July 2, Gameway and Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) held a grand opening ceremony at one of its two video game lounges. On June 30, a 22-station gaming lounge opened at gate 16 in Terminal E of the airport and a second lounge with 14 stations was opened at Gate 42 in Terminal B three weeks earlier. DFW is the first airport where Gameway has opened a video game lounge.
The Xbox One gaming stations built my Gameway have 19 of the latest games pre-downloaded. Based on the success of the concept, Gameway will look to expand it to A,C, and D terminals of the airport. Users have to pay 42 cents per minute to play or $20 for unlimited gaming time.
“Generally airports aren’t the most entertaining places to be, especially if you have a long layover or delay. We hope to change the airport industry by creating a source of entertainment and fun,” said Emma Walbridge, vice president of Gameway. “With the average age of a female gamer being 44 and male 35 with an approximate 40-60% split between demographics, we are a source of entertainment for everyone.”
