New security screening technology was unveiled today at San Francisco International Airport (SFO) that expedites and modernizes the security process.
“We are proud to be among the first U.S. airports to offer the latest advancements in passenger screening technology,” said Airport Director Ivar C. Satero. “Our goal is to revolutionize the travel experience, with facilities designed to make travel easier and more enjoyable.”
The high-tech screening lanes are made to automate security functions to make the process more streamlined and alleviate congestion issues that delay passengers during busy times. Larger, more tech-savvy bins with Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) tags and automated conveyor belts, among other revamped amenities, are now located at the Automated Screening Lanes in Terminal 3.
The Automated Screening Lanes were purchased by United Airlines and installed with SFO union labor. This pilot project will allow the airport to conduct a study of future deployment of Automated Screening Lanes at other security checkpoint locations at SFO.
