The latest survey from the U.S. Travel Association (USTA) found that only 12 percent of Americans are planning to travel for spring break this year.
The survey of more than 1,200 people done by Destination Analysis found interest in spring break travel has fallen in recent weeks as Americans continue to be wary about traveling amid the COVID pandemic. The survey also found many respondents looking to defer their travel plans until the process of vaccinating the populace is more complete.
The latest data underscores that it is far from clear when demand for travel will rebound on its own and travel jobs can begin to be restored, the USTA said, adding that “aggressive policy action is still needed to help travel employers keep their doors open.”
The Destination Analysis survey did contain some reason for optimism going forward as a record 36.9 percent of American travelers — including 41.6 percent of Millennial age travelers — have made travel plans specifically in anticipation of more widespread vaccination.
“A true travel comeback can also only happen once the pandemic is decisively behind us, and we all have an important part to play: get vaccinated as soon as you can, and don’t become complacent about mask-wearing and other important health practices,” said Roger Dow, USTA president and CEO.
