Memphis International Airport (MEM) said this week it will be opening its modernized B concourse on February 15, with flights to begin the following day.
The $245 million multi-year project overhauls and updates the spine and east leg of MEM’s B Concourse as well as consolidates all airlines, retail, and food/beverage operations. The redesign also includes the addition of wider corridors, moving walkways, larger boarding areas, higher ceilings and increased natural lighting.
“This is an exciting day for MEM, Memphis, and our passengers,” said Michael Keeney, chairman of the Memphis-Shelby County Airport Authority Board of Commissioners, which operates MEM. “We are truly reinventing the Memphis travel experience, and we can’t wait to welcome our passengers on February 15.”
Other improvements include enhanced restaurant/retail options, a children’s play area, a stage for live music, additional lounge areas, additional charging stations and new air-conditioned jet bridged. The project also includes much-needed seismic upgrades.
The stem and southeast leg of the B Concourse will have been completely modernized, while the southwest leg of the concourse is only used for international arriving flights and was not redesigned during this first phase of modernization.
All told there will be 23 gates at the airport accommodating up to 6 million passengers annually, about 50 percent more traffic than MEM’s pre-pandemic levels.
