Portland International Airport (PDX) announced that 20 food and retail businesses will open in the new main terminal in next two years. All the restaurants and retail shops will represent Oregon brands.

The airport said that half of the 20 food and retail businesses involve woman or minority ownership and 13 of the brands are new to PDX.

“We’re always aiming to make PDX even more of a reflection of the neighborhoods people love here in Oregon,” said Kaitlin Hunter, senior manager of concessions at the Port of Portland, which oversees PDX. “These 20 new shops bring even more of the region’s unrivaled food and shopping scene to our airport – and we’re supporting more local business owners who are committed to making a positive impact in our region.”

Twelve of the 20 new food and retail businesses are slated to open beginning May 2024, with the rest set to open December 2025.

Among the new brands at PDX are Freeland Spirits, which will offer farm-to-still gins, whiskies and cocktails made by Portland’s women-owned, women-run distillery; Grassa, providing pasta made on site; Hello From Portland, a Portland-themed gift shop that showcases local BIPOC, women and LGBTQ+ makers; and KURE Superfoods, which will offer cold-pressed juices, smoothies and grain bowls.

Other new brands are Lola’s Café, a branch of Lake Oswego’s beloved café; Loyal Legion, a combination beer hall, speakeasy, TV viewing room, and kids’ play area; Oven and Shaker, which will offer wood-fired over pizzas; Paper Epiphanies, a feminist card store; Pilot House Distilling serving cocktails and local seafood; Portland Gear, which provides locally printed T-shirts, caps and backpacks; Sizzle Pie pizza shop; Steven Smith Teamaker; and craft cocktail bar Straightaway Cocktails

Returning concessions include Blue Star donut shop, Capers Bistro, Columbia Sportswear, The Country Cat deli and market, Pendleton, Portland Coffee Roasters with two PDX locations, and Stumptown Coffee.

Five of the shops will be located pre-security, and additional shops will be located in the PDX post-security main terminal. The new-to-PDX brands were selected as part of a formal Request for Proposals (RFP) process that began in late 2022.

“We’re honored that PDX wants to shine a light on woman-owned businesses like ours and give us a platform,” says Victoria Venturi, founder and creative director of Paper Epiphanies. “We keep asking ourselves: Is this really going to happen? Our team is beaming and so emotional.”
