CAC Supports Verified Traveler Program

The Canadian Airports Council (CAC) voice support for the Canadian government’s plan to roll out risk-based screening in Canada.

Monette Pasher, CAC president, said the Verified Traveler Program, which relies on risk-based screening, is a major step forward that will help travelers move smoothly through security. reducing processing times and improving the overall passenger journey.

“We look forward to working with government and CATSA on the next step of expanding this program to more Canadian airports and creating a true domestic trusted traveler program so that more Canadians can take advantage of faster screening,” Pasher said.

The changes to the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority (CATSA) security screening practices will begin next month at six international airports across the country and enable travelers to keep their laptops, electronics and liquids in their carry-on bags. Approved travelers will also be exempt from removing their shoes, belts and jackets.

“As membership grows over time, the new Verified Traveler Program will help improve the screening experience for more and more passengers while supporting the highest standards of safety and security,” said Omar Alghabra, Canadian Transport Minister, at a press event at Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ).
