San Diego International Airport (SAN) has awarded a contract for new food and beverage locations to High Flying Foods. The Package 1 award is the first of five food and beverage packages – totaling 21 total venues – to be announced as the airport continues construction on a new Terminal 1.
High Flying Foods, which currently operates food and beverage concessions in the existing Terminal 1 and in Terminal 2 at SAN, will bring seven brands to fill five locations in the new terminal.
The lineup, consisting of all local San Diego concepts, includes:
- Better Buzz Coffee Roasters
- Cutwater Bar & Restaurant, a concept offered by the creators of Cutwater Spirits; with a portion of the allotted space divided for a separate Lofty Coffee.
- Parakeet Café, a healthy food concept that will be operated by subtenant United Concessions Group.
- Puesto, a Mexican food concept launched in San Diego by first generation Mexican Americans; with a portion of the space given over for a Mostra Coffee location.
- Kettner Exchange, an iconic San Diego favorite featuring a bar and small bites menu.
Kevin Westlye, president of High Flying Foods, credited Carla Wytmar, executive vice president, and the High Flying team for capturing some of the best local flavor San Diego has to offer.
“We started working in the San Diego community almost two years ago,” Westlye said. “Our goal was to get out ahead of the marketplace and sign what we thought were the most dynamic representative brands for San Diego that would be appropriate to bring into the airport. We have quite a collection and we’re super happy to be awarded package 1.”
Construction is expected to begin later this year and concept openings will coincide with the first phase Terminal 1 opening slated for September 2025. Winners of the remaining four packages are expected to be announced in the coming months.
