ATL, DFW, DEN Lead Global Airport Rankings

Hartsfield–Jackson Atlanta International (ATL), Dallas Fort Worth International (DFW), and Denver International (DEN) airports topped the Airports Council International (ACI) list of world’s busiest airport for passenger traffic, as the organization touted the strong return of international travel in 2022.

ACI’s World Airport Traffic Dataset noted that total passenger numbers topped 6.6 billion last year, an increase of 43.8 percent from 2021 and a recovery of 72.5% versus the pre-pandemic year of 2019. The global share of international traffic increased from 25.3 percent in 2021 to 38.4 percent in 2022.

Following ATL, DFW and DEN in the global top ten are Chicago O’Hare International (ORD), Dubai International (DXB), Los Angeles International (LAX), Istanbul (IST), London Heathrow International (LHR), Indira Gandhi New Delhi International (DEL) and Paris Charles de Gaulle (CDG) airports.

U.S. airports represented 10 of the top 20 world airports for passenger volume, with John Kennedy International (JFK), Harry Reid Las Vegas International (LAS), Miami International (MIA), Orlando International (MCO) and Charlotte Douglas International (CLT) airports all making the list.

Global aircraft movements were close to 85 million, representing a gain of 14.8 percent from 2021 results or a recovery at 82.4 percent from pre-pandemic levels.
