RDU Adds Parking Guidance System

Raleigh Durham International Airport (RDU) will install a new parking guidance system throughout the parking deck to help guests find a space faster.

The system recently passed the testing phase on Level 6 and will be installed on the remaining levels by spring 2024. The system communicates – through lights and digital signage – all available open, closed and handicapped parking spaces. Parking guidance systems help guests find a space up to 63 percent faster compared to decks without one.

“The parking guidance system is the latest innovation RDU is deploying to make travel even more convenient,” said Michael Landguth, president and CEO of the Raleigh-Durham Airport Authority, operator of RDU. “Guests are flying in record numbers and this technology will help them begin their journey with a seamless parking experience.”

Guests parking on a level with the parking guidance system will see a sign at the entrance listing the number of open spaces. Red, green and blue overhead lights will indicate occupied, open and handicapped spaces.

RDU is also offering “Find My Car,” a new feature through the RDU Park Assist app that lets travelers enter their license plate number and then receive a picture of their vehicle and a map of its location in the garage.
