MSP Airport’s 2040 Long-Term Plan Gets Go-Ahead

The Metropolitan Airports Commission (MAC) board has approved Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport (MSP)’s long-term terminal, parking and airfield improvement plan.

MSP’s 2040 Long-Term Plan addresses facility needs derived from the airport’s fast-growing passenger numbers. Ranked the 19th busiest airport in North America by Airports Council International, MSP is expected to serve approximately 56 million passengers by 2040.

Some of the proposed projects include expanding the airport’s Terminal 2 and extending Concourse G; reconstructing concourses E and F; creating a passenger connection between Terminals 1 and 2; improving the facility’s parking and cargo facilities, and constructing new taxiways.

“Our focus through this multi-year process has been to make sure we’re prepared to meet growing demand in air service, cargo and other flight operations while maintaining our commitment to the highest standards in service to our travelers and stakeholders, while minimizing environmental impacts,” said Brian Ryks, CEO of the MAC, which owns and operates MSP Airport. “MSP has the ability to accommodate the projected growth without new runways, but we’ve identified the need to expand terminals, gates and other areas to improve operations for our airlines and make the passenger journey easier throughout the airport.”
