MDW and SSP America Open Local Favorite R.J. Grunt’s

A Chicago culinary landmark has landed at Chicago Midway International Airport (MDW) with the opening of the airport’s first R.J. Grunt’s. The restaurant is known for its burgers, hand-spun milkshakes and sandwiches.

The cafe has been a Lincoln Park staple since 1971 and its success led owners Rich Melman and Jerry A. Orzoff to found Chicago’s well-known Lettuce Entertain You restaurant group, which now operates more than 100 local eateries. The opening of R.J. Grunt’s at MDW is part of a larger partnership between SSP America, Vantage Group and Hudson to overhaul the airport’s dining and retail concepts.

“Lettuce has had a great working relationship with the SSP America team for many years and through this partnership, we are excited to bring R.J. Grunt’s to Midway Airport for the first time,” said Kevin Reynolds, executive partner at Lettuce Fly LLC, a division of Lettuce Entertain You Restaurants. “We are grateful to SSP, the Chicago Department of Aviation, and Midway Partnership for giving us the opportunity to bring this restaurant to life.”
