Travel data platform OAG has ranked four U.S. airports among the world’s ten busiest in 2024. OAG’s Global Airline Schedules Data found that Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson (ATL) retained its spot as the world’s busiest airport with 62.7 million seats filled between January and December 2024; with Dallas Fort Worth (DFW) earning fifth place with 51.5 million seats filled; Denver International (DEN) coming in sixth place with 49.2 million seats; and Chicago O’Hare (ORD) in tenth place with 47.0 million seats filled. Outside the U.S.,Dubai International Airport (DXB); Tokyo Haneda Airport (HND); London Heathrow Airport (LHR); Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport (CAN); Istanbul Airport (IST); and Shanghai Pudong Airport (PVG) round out the rest of the top ten performing facilities. The survey revealed year-over-year growth across all ten of the top-trafficked airports from 2023, with eight of the ten facilities surpassing 2019’s traffic numbers.
“Atlanta’s continued global leadership reflects the airport’s strength as a major connecting hub for both domestic and international capacity, supported by a strong set of base airlines,” said OAG’s chief analyst, John Grant, adding that “recent developments in both Dallas For Worth and Denver highlight the competitive nature of the market in the United States, which results in choices for the connecting traveller market.”
