Airports Council International – North America (ACI-NA) is praising the new $900 billion COVID-19 relief package passed over the weekend by both houses of the U.S. Congress.
The many of the details of the bill, which still must be signed into law by President Donald Trump, remain unclear, but in broad terms it includes $1.75 billion for U.S. airports and an additional $200 million to airport concessionaires. It also includes $15 billion for domestic airlines and an additional $1 billion for airline contractors.
“America’s airports are grateful for the continued support from Congress as they work to respond to the COVID-19 emergency and fight to survive this historic downturn in commercial aviation,” said Kevin Burke, ACI-NA president and CEO. “This funding will provide much-needed temporary relief to airports already forced to make tough financial decisions in order to maintain their critical operations during a global pandemic that dramatically depressed passenger traffic and revenue.”
Burke added the nation’s airports look forward to our ongoing collaboration with Congress and the incoming Biden administration to restore an industry that supports 2.7 million jobs and is vital to the country’s transportation network and economic health.
