Airports Council International (ACI) World has published its 2023 traffic dataset, including the world’s top 20 busiest airports.
According to ACI World’s data, Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) was ranked the world’s busiest airport, followed by Dubai International Airport (DXB) and Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW). Other US airports that made the top 20 rankings include Denver International Airport (DEN) at number six, Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) at number 8, Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD) at number nine, John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) at number 13, Orlando International Airport (MCO) at number 18 and Harry Reid International Airport (LAS) at number 19. The dataset, collected from over 2,700 airports worldwide, confirmed that total global passenger traffic reached nearly 8.7 billion in 2023, a 30.5% increase from 2022’s passenger numbers and a 94.2% recovery from pre-pandemic numbers.
“The dataset findings indicate that the demand for air travel is as strong as ever. International passenger traffic has now almost fully recovered from the pandemic, and the regional disparities are gone. China’s reopening fuelled much of 2023’s strong growth and has propelled Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport back into the Top 20,” said ACI World director general and CEO Luis Felipe de Oliveira. “Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport continues to lead the way, but the revival of Middle East and Asia-Pacific hubs is the standout takeaway from 2023 figures.”
