ACI World Projects 10% Global Passenger Growth

The Airports Council International (ACI) World’s latest Annual World Airport Traffic Report and Bi-Annual traffic bulletins have projected global passenger traffic to grow 10% and reach 9.5 billion in 2024.

The reports — which draw on data from 2023 through the first half of 2024 from more than 2,700 airports across over 180 countries and territories —  includes passenger, cargo and aircraft traffic.  Global passenger traffic reached 8.7 billion in 2023, in a 30.6% increase from 2022 that indicated a 95% recovery from pre-pandemic numbers. 2024’s projected 9.5 billion passengers — comprising 43% international travel and 57% domestic travel traffic — would represent 104% of 2019 passenger levels and a 10% year-on-year growth from 2023.

“The release of the Annual World Airport Traffic Report highlights the resilience and adaptability of the global aviation industry and demonstrates ACI World’s unmatched ability to predict and analyze industry trends,” said ACI World director general Justin Erbacci. As we continue to navigate an increasingly complex and evolving landscape, ACI World remains committed to supporting our airport members through advocacy and the development of timely resources.”
