Airport retailer AMERICA! raised $22,060 for Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center’s Nina Hyde Center for Breast Cancer Research. This year was the fifth annual Blossoms to Benefit, a program using seasonal sales of cherry blossom merchandise to aid in breast cancer research.
Blossoms to Benefit is the brainchild of AMERICA!’s president, Jane Crawford, who, after overcoming breast cancer for the second time, seized the opportunity to spread a hopeful message via the business she started in 1988.
“Especially in these difficult economic times, AMERICA! is thrilled to surpass its previous Blossoms to Benefit donation for the fifth consecutive year,” says Crawford. “Our customers and employees alike appreciate the importance of the work of the Nina Hyde Center in seeking a cure for Breast Cancer.”
The Nina Hyde Center for Breast Cancer Research at the Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center at Georgetown University was established in 1989 as a tribute to Nina Hyde who reigned as fashion editor of The Washington Post for 18 years before breast cancer befell her. She fervently believed in the benefits of early detection and research as the vehicle that would eventually provide a cure.
