The Dulles Day Plane Pull and Family Festival will return to Washington Dulles International (IAD) from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 19.
The yearly open house at the airport includes various activities at no cost to attendees. The main event, the plane pull, will feature 70 teams competing to be the fastest at pulling a full-size jet 12 feet. FedEx and United Airlines will provide the two planes.
There will also be a 5K/10K Run on the Runway at 7:30 a.m. The run starts and ends at the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum’s Udvar-Hazy Center. Passenger traffic won’t be affected.
A new “International Row” exhibit will also be a part of Dulles Day. The exhibit will focus on the non-stop international cities IAD serves and how travelers can expedite security screening with tips from Customs and Border Protection and the Transportation Security Administration.
Other festivities include a classic car show, airfield tours, a play area, equipment displays, fire truck rides, police K-9 demonstrations, and food and beverage vendors.
All proceeds from the event will benefit Special Olympics Virginia.
