Asheville Regional Director Resigns To Lead GSP

David N. Edwards Jr., airport director of Asheville Regional (AVL), will resign his position effective June 26. He is leaving AVL to become executive director of Greenville-Spartanburg International (GSP).

“We are extremely sad to see him go,” says Dave Hillier, chairman of the airport authority board. “Under Dave Edwards’ leadership, the airport has seen tremendous growth, not only in passenger traffic, but in facility improvements including a state-of-the art rental car facility, extensive terminal renovations, a second fixed-based operator for general aviation and a new maintenance facility. In addition, net operating income for the airport has increased from a half a million to two million dollars during Edwards’ tenure and he has developed a very able support staff.”

Edwards has more than 20 years of experience in airport management and has held positions with the Titusville-Cocoa Airport Authority, the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority and Dade County Aviation Department. He has been AVL’s director since November 2003.
