ATL Offers New Way For Travelers To Save Money At Concessions

Travelers at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International (ATL) have a new way to save on purchases at airport concessions.

Using their smart phones, shoppers will be able to use quick response codes for discounts at food and beverage and retail establishments. The codes can be found on more than 30 advertising dioramas throughout the airport. ATL is the first airport to use the QR codes in this way.

“This is an exciting way to let passengers know about all the shops, restaurants and services the airport offers,” said Arnaldo Ruiz, assistant general manager for commercial development and customer service. “Leveraging this technology is also environmentally friendly because it allows us to offer discounts while eliminating the traditional option of printing coupons.”

Phones will require a downloadable application to read the codes, which are two-dimensional bar codes containing information that is scanned and read by the phone. The airport is using QR codes that have a URL link to a new webpage of concessions offers, where they will find downloadable discounts for stores such as InMotion Entertainment, BlackBerry from Wireless Giant, Savannah’s Candy Kitchen and others. There are also airport maps and a store/restaurant locator.
