ATL’s Economic Impact Increases, Report Says

Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International (ATL) produced an economic impact on metro Atlanta of $64.28 billion in 2013, up 10.4 percent from 2009 when its economic impact was $58.22 billion, according to a report released this week.

Direct airport-generated jobs also increased, by 9.1 percent, to 63,300 jobs in 2013, compared with 58,000 in 2009. Total airport-related jobs increased to 448,700 from 434,400, a jump of 3.2 percent.

“Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport is rightfully celebrated for being the world’s busiest and most efficient airport, but here in Georgia, it also has long served as the dominant economic engine for the entire metropolitan region,” says Mayor Kasim Reed. “The airport provides unparalleled access to global destinations and is the primary reason the Atlanta region is successful at attracting new businesses and new residents.”
