Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) has appointed J Somer Shindler as chief development officer. Shindler will lead our the airport’s Journey With AUS airport improvement program and will oversee critical AUS teams like Planning & Development, Environmental Affairs & Asset Management.

Shindler has more than two decades of experience in planning, design and construction, with the last 15 years of her career focused on aviation-specific capital infrastructure projects. Shindler previously worked for United Airlines, Southwest Airlines and Denver International Airport (DEN), where she led the development and initial implementation of a five-year, multi-billion dollar airport expansion program to increase gate capacity and improve DEN facilities. During her time at United Airlines, Shindler oversaw the airline’s billion-dollar global capital portfolio as the managing director of Corporate Real Estate.

“I am incredibly grateful for this opportunity to return to my home state and to a city that I love,” said Shindler. “Joining the City of Austin Department of Aviation at a time when we are delivering improvements through our expansion program that will support Austinites and Central Texans of today and in the generations to come is more than a professional milestone for me. I am eager to support the Central Texas community through economic opportunities that our Journey With AUS program will deliver, to support our construction and trade partners and – of course – to connect travelers to the world, and the world to Austin.”
