The Austin City Council has approved two more major expansion projects in the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) Journey with AUS program. The latest projects to be approved in the $4 billion modernization program include the construction of a new, multistory Arrivals and Departures Hall that will feature expanded ticketing, check-in, and baggage claim areas as well as consolidated security checkpoints, as well as the construction of Concourse B, a new, 20-gate midfield concourse that will feature boarding areas and concessions concepts.
The projects — which will be built in collaboration with design firm Skidmore, Owings & Merrill LLP and construction firms Austin Commercial LP and Hensel Phelps — are slated to be complete by 2030. The airport has already begun work on several Journey With AUS projects including the West Gate expansion project, West Infill and TSA expansion project, Atrium Infill project and the International Arrivals Near-Term Improvements Project.
“As we continue advancing the transformative Journey With AUS expansion program, we remain committed to delivering an exceptional airport experience that will not only increase capacity but also drive economic growth for our region, connect our community to the world and improve the overall quality of life for our community,” said AUS CEO Ghizlane Badawi. We deeply appreciate the ongoing support from our Mayor, City Council, City leaders, airlines, partner departments, and the traveling public. I would also like to extend a special thanks to the Aviation Department staff and all City of Austin personnel who have been working tirelessly since the launch of our program to bring these projects to life.”
