A nine-gate expansion of the Barbara Jordan Terminal at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) opened Feb. 21. The total project, which includes both the terminal and apron expansion, cost $350 million.
The addition of nine gates brings the total to 34 and increases the international flight gates from two to six. The expansion covers nearly 175,000 square feet and was designed to meet LEED Silver certification for overall energy and environmental sustainability.
The original Barbara Jordan Terminal was designed to serve 11 million passengers annually. In 2018, the airport served 15.8 million annual passengers.
