BNA Announces $1.4 Billion New Horizons Concourse Expansion Plan

Nashville International Airport (BNA) has announced New Horizons, a $1.4 billion improvement and expansion plan for two terminal concourses, a new air freight building, roadway improvements and additional upgrades to further enhance the traveler experience.

New Horizons will be phased in over the next six years with a scheduled completion in late 2028. Airport officials stressed that no local tax dollars will be used throughout the project. Funding will come from bonds, federal and state aviation grants, Passenger Facility Charges (PFCs) and other airport funds, airport officials added.

“The passenger volume we’ve seen at Nashville International Airport continues to outpace our previous projections, which is a great sign for our city, but it also means that we have to continue building for the future,” said Doug Kreulen, BNA president and CEO. “It’s paramount for us to focus on a new horizon and continue to build a world-class airport to support more and more domestic and international travelers.”

New Horizons will include extending and improving BNA’s A and D concourses with additional gates, moving walkways and concessions. A new Air Freight Building will better support airline cargo requirements. The plans also call for terminal roadway improvements to both increase and ease traffic flow and upgrades to the baggage handling system that will sort bags by flight, speed security inspections and deliver passenger luggage to and from the aircraft faster.

The New Horizons design phase is expected to begin this August and the extension of Concourse D is scheduled to begin in late 2023.
