Chellie Cameron has been named the new CEO of Philadelphia International (PHL). She will officially assume her new role in January. Cameron succeeds Mark Gale, who is retiring.
Cameron has served as PHL’s chief operating officer since December 2014, overseeing the day-to-day operations of numerous airport units ranging from facility operations and security to property and concession management and finance and budget. She joined PHL in 2011 as deputy director of aviation, finance and administration.
Prior to joining PHL, Cameron spent nearly 13 years at the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority, where she oversaw numerous financial and business departments. Cameron’s experience also includes seven years as an active duty officer in the United States Air Force.
“There are few in the aviation industry with more experience and expertise than Chellie Cameron,” says Mayor-elect James Kenney. “Her service in the Air Force and her work overseeing three airports in Washington, D.C. and Philadelphia has all been exemplary. I know that as CEO she will not just provide excellent customer service, but also create a fair, supportive work environment for our employees.”
Cameron says she is “honored to have the opportunity” to serve as PHL’s CEO. “I am excited about the future of our airport and I am embracing the opportunity to work together with our airline and partner agencies to make a great airport even better,” she says.
PHL is embarking on a $6 billion capacity enhancement program that includes terminal redevelopment, a new consolidated rental car facility, an automated people mover and a runway extension, among other projects.
