The Allegheny County Airport Authority on Tuesday introduced Christina Cassotis as the new CEO at Pittsburgh International (PIT).
“In the past year, we have seen new airlines and destinations come to Pittsburgh International,” says Rich Fitzgerald, Allegheny County executive. “With Christina on board, we will continue to build on those successes and work to attract even more flights to support our region’s business and leisure travelers. She is energetic, engaged and excited about the opportunity to grow our airport, and we look forward to seeing her efforts come to fruition in this coming year.”
Cassotis most recently had been managing officer of ICF SH&E’s airport services practice for seven years. During 16 years there, she created new market-leading service and product offerings and created and led competitive strategies for clients in the areas of air service, customer service and revenue enhancement, according to airport officials.
She began her career in transportation with the Massachusetts Port Authority, which operates Boston Logan International (BOS).
“Christina was definitely the most outstanding candidate that we interviewed,” says Jack Rea, a member of the authority and chairman of the search committee. “She has experience with both domestic and international flights, strong relationships with airports and airlines alike, and has experience in airport operations. Additionally, she has a background in marketing and promotion and is extremely well thought of in the airline industry. We look forward to having her on board.”
The authority began its search in April. Cassotis replaces Brad Penrod, who was removed from the position in March. Jim Gill, acting executive director during the interim period, also was a candidate.
“I am honored and humbled to be given this amazing opportunity,” Cassotis says. “I look forward to building on the growth and success at Pittsburgh International Airport and working with the community to make the airport the best it can be.”
